Bite Reconstruction in Arcadia

January 20, 2017

Bite reconstruction in Arcadia builds new smiles. When Dr. Canzoneri talks about your bite, also called the occlusion, he is referring to the way in which your upper and lower teeth come together. Ideally, when your teeth come together there should be about one-half to two-thirds of the length of your bottom teeth showing. If your upper teeth cover too much of the lower teeth, then this is called an overbite, or deep bite. If your upper teeth don’t cover enough of the lower ones, then you an open bite. Dr. Canzoneri offers bite reconstruction in Arcadia, so you can have a smile that is comfortable and attractive.

What Can Cause an Improper Bite?

There are several factors that can contribute to an improper bite. For some people, the reason is severe tooth decay or unusual wear, a traumatic injury or deterioration as a person ages. In others, the reason may be the construction or position of the jawbone. In any case, Dr. Canzoneri first investigates the cause of an improper bite and then is able to recommend the appropriate treatments for bite reconstruction.

Understanding Your Bite

To evaluate your occlusion, Dr. Canzoneri uses T-Scan. This system is used along with articulating paper, which is a small blue strip of paper used to mark your teeth when you bite down. T-Scan then offers precise data including contact points, timing and force information that can be seen in 2D and 3D imaging. With this information, Dr. Canzoneri can plan for your optimal occlusion.

Bite Reconstruction as Part of Full-Mouth Reconstruction

Dr. Canzoneri will review the T-Scan images with you, so you’ll better be able to understand the unique needs of your smile. He will point out the issues to be corrected, and what dental procedures are most appropriate for your bite reconstruction. This step-by-step plan not only corrects malocclusions, but also gives you a smile that is more attractive. Both restorative and cosmetic treatments may be included in a bite reconstruction plan. Procedures that may be included in you plan are:

  • Dental crowns
  • Tooth-colored fillings
  • Full and partial dentures
  • Dental implants
  • Laser gum therapy
  • Porcelain veneers
  • TMJ therapy

With a proper bite, you will be able to chew more comfortably, speak clearly and smile with confidence.
