Damaged teeth require the right restorative and cosmetic treatments. Learn whether Pasadena veneers or dental crowns from Dr. Kenneth J. Canzoneri are best.Do you need substantial restoration on one or more teeth? Or, do your basically healthy teeth require cosmetic refurbishment with some added durability? Consider Pasadena porcelain veneers or dental crowns from Kenneth J. Canzoneri DDS.

Which dental service is right for your smile?

Dr. Kenneth Canzoneri is a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. He pursues restorative and aesthetic dental solutions that best suit patient need and desire, too. As such, he offers 2 important dental services, porcelain veneers and dental crowns, in his Pasadena office. The condition of individual teeth, plus overall dental health, determines what service Dr. Canzoneri offers to an individual.

Pasadena porcelain veneers

Pasadena porcelain veneers, or dental laminates, are custom-made shells of dental grade ceramic. Completely covering the front side of teeth marred with stains, cracks, uneven length and chips, veneers create a “smile zone” that is natural-looking and aesthetically pleasing.

People with good oral health make the best candidates for porcelain veneers. While Dr. Canzoneri sometimes advises no-prep veneers, most dental laminates require removal of a thin slice of enamel from the front side of teeth. This painless procedure allows room in the mouth for the veneers and for effective bonding of the ceramic to tooth surfaces. The bonding cement is blended and shaded for great color match.

While porcelain veneers strengthen teeth, their purpose is primarily cosmetic. They resist staining from foods and smoking and last for years with routine oral hygiene at home and twice yearly professional cleanings.

Dental crowns from your Pasadena dentist

Dental crowns, or caps, save severely damaged teeth. Tooth enamel integrity lost to injury, extensive decay, root canal therapy or large fillings often leave roots, gums and bone intact and healthy but with little viable structure above the gum line.

Dental crowns rebuild tooth structure. Dr. Canzoneri examines and x-rays a tooth to determine the appropriateness of a cap. He offers porcelain and porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns depending on the location of the tooth. After taking oral impressions, he sends treatment instructions to a dental lab for fabrication of the restoration. He also removes decay and old filling material and places a temporary cap over the prepared tooth.

During a subsequent visit, the dentist places the crown and uses bite imagery to ensure the teeth, including the new crown, come together properly. Just like all-natural teeth, crowns need flossing daily and once a day brushing to stay bright and to ward off gum disease. With semi-annual cleanings and check-ups, Pasadena dental crowns  last 10 years or even more!
